Talkin bout the REAL thing!
Some may call it a sickness.
Others may think of me more as a loyalist.
It all stems back to an experience I had as a middle schooler.
Who knew that a trip to the grocery store could have such a lasting impact on a girl?
I was shopping with my mom one day when I was an early teen and they were conducting a blind taste test for Coke and Pepsi. Before this time I'd drink either, never really seeing a difference or a big deal.
Then I took one sip, and literally my life was never the same. Ok, actually it was two sips.
They had the cola beverages in dixie cups behind a cardboard sign. Very official stuff here people. I drank from one dixie cup. Pause. Sipped from the other cup. I picked one and... drum roll please... turns out I preferred Coke to Pepsi.
Now I am 29 years old and a Coke snob. I will not drink the other guy. Don't care how badly my body is craving that bubbly, sugary, caffeinated goodness, if they only serve Pepsi, I'll take water. I actually don't understand why places serve Pepsi. Last week my husband and I went on a date to Applebees and all day I had been looking forward to bottomless cokes at dinner. You can not imagine how shocked I was to learn that they only served Pepsi products. That's ok... I took my water and consoled myself that I could then drink a soda at the theatre. I was so excited as we went to the movie b/c I was going to get my first drink at a movie theatre (we never cough up food money at the theater but this time the tickets had been free). I was outraged to learn that they too only served Pepsi. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? Do people really, actually prefer Pepsi? I was shocked and appalled. Scott said that Pepsi is the hip drink of the new generation. Coke, he says, is for romantics and loyalists. (I'd be interested in your opinion on this one)
My love for Coke runs deep and wide. When my husband and I were on a cross country trip a few years ago, I got an incredible craving for a cold Coke during our drive through Utah... the desolate, never ending salt flats of Utah to be precise... not a lot of rest stops here. But as we were driving we did see one and I was ecstatic... delirious with joy I tell you. Not sure if it was the caffeine or the 12 hrs of riding in the car, but we needed a break and thought it would be fun to take some pictures. Here are our pictures of me in the salt flats enjoying that sweet nectar.
These are pictures that I am kind of embarrassed to admit made the scrapbook. Oh, the mocking my children will do to me when they get their hands on these later...
I still can't believe I actually did this, and made a scrapbook page about it none the less. I am such a dork! In my defense it was a REALLY long day on the road.

Oh man - that's a great one.
ReplyDeleteI am not a soda drinker by trade but on the very rare occasion that I drink soda, I always prefer Coke to Pepsi. I think it's a North / South thing? I have no idea. lol
My Sincerely 'Fro post this week is about my husband because I want him to let me paint the dining room purple. I pull no stops, my friend. No stops.

Ahhhh! I fellow Coke Lover. Have a Coke & a smile! I think it's super that you scrapbooked it. :D

Coke girl here. No pepsi. No way. Never.
ReplyDeleteAh! Another Coke Lover! I love, love, love that you made a scrapbook page about it! Not as much as I love Coke, but still there is some love there. ;)
ReplyDeleteDiet Coke. Or Dier Dr Pepper for me. :) Very cute pics. Come see our new pets. Well sorta.
ReplyDeleteConfessions of an Apron Queen
LOL, you always make me smile!
ReplyDeleteCoke is the REAL thing!
ReplyDeleteI could not live in a world where there was no Coca Cola...sad? Yes! Pathetic? Probably. But it would be a cheerless world indeed! Besides, if there was no Coke, there would no cute polar bear commercials during the holidays!
I knew there was a reason I liked you so much! Coke drinkers are often kindred spirits! :-)
See? I knew we would be friends--I can tell true COKE drinkers! I'm with you. I'd rather have water than Pepsi. It tastes like bad, flat Coke. One of the main reasons I started drinking sweet tea was from all the restaurants serving the new generation!
ReplyDeleteKeep being a flag-waver for the real deal, k?
I'm sorry - don't come and flame on my blog - but I love Pepsi. I think at one point I was legally addicted to it. My husband drank the last 1/8 inch out of the bottom of the can and I freakin' lost it. Seriously. I remember, in the aftermath of my rage, while standing at the washer that maybe I had a problem. I didn't buy anymore and can actually control my habit at this point in my life :-)
ReplyDeleteHah! You made me laugh! As a southern girl, I am ashamed to admit that I am not a coke snob. I will drink either but it HAS to be diet. So I am a diet soda snob I guess....
ReplyDeleteFunny pics!
Jen
WOW, that's totally funny! Love it. And I HATE Pepsi products. Always have, even without the blind taste test (with it too). EXCEPT, I did like Pepsi One, you know why? It tastes like regular Coke. But then Coke Zero came out and it totally rocked for diet. Then I gave up artificial sweeteners (and soda mostly too).
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!!! I'm a Coke only person, too. Actually, I prefer DIET COKE over anything else, but will drink regular Coke before I drink a Pepsi. I will also order water before Pepsi in a restaurant. My brother-in-law worked in management for Pepsi for many years and we were almost ostracized from the family because we drank Coke! Now he works for Red Bull and drinks coke himself.
ReplyDeleteCoke for me..with a twist of lime...mmm.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, those pics are hilarious! I love the desperateness you portray as you guzzle the classic beverage :)
And may I also say...you have got it going on girl!
True Pepsi person here. I will drink water over Coke. Of course, my three brothers and a cousin worked or still work for Pepsi. My husband drinks Mt. Dew. I will NEVER switch. Even my two year old granddaughter knows that Mamaw drinks Pepsi.
ReplyDeletecoke all the way. oh, and those pictures are classic. kind of like the beverage!
ReplyDeleteYou know I understand! You should send that into Coke for a commercial.
ReplyDeleteAlways been a Coke girl, I think my parents used to put it in my baby bottle (not kidding).
ReplyDeleteLooove that bottom picture, it looks like somethin' right offa Coke commercial!
If I had to pick one it would be Coke. Down here in the south though we call everything Coke.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose my favorite "Coke" it would be Sun-Drop, which you get here in the South and its not all over the South either. I just happened to be blessed to be born in Sun-Drop country.
I am absolutely loving that you took those pictures. That was so fun!!
Very funny! I'm a Dr. Pepper girl myself.
ReplyDeleteThe only way I can drink a Pepsi, and ALMOST enjoy it, is to add either Root Beer or a lot of lemon.
ReplyDeleteI am a Caffeine Diet Cole girl all the way. Regular soda always leaves me with a sticky mouth needing to be followed with a water chaser to rinse it out. Who needs all those sugar calories, anyway. Unless the calories come from ice cream treat. 8-)
haha..I love the pictures..wonderful, such passion for the coke..haha but yes, I completely agree, coke is so much better than pepsi (and I havent even drank coke in 5 years) and I still can tell you I never was a fan of pepsi..but my mom gets so upset when we eat out and they only serve pepsi..haha
ReplyDeleteMade me smile! Have a COKE and a smile!
ReplyDeleteActually, I'm a Diet Coke fan....but definitely prefer it to Diet Pepsi. My husband when through a phase a while back where he wanted Diet Pepsi. It faded....
I will say that I will drink Diet Pepsi in it's place when I have to. And Applebee's was just one of those places recently (my daughter's 18th birthday...sob).
But I'm blown away that a movie theater would drop Coke/Diet Coke.
wow, as i'm not a real fan of either coke or pepsi (please don't shoot me!) i can't fully relate to this post, though it did make me laugh more than most. those pictures kill me. i remember when i saw them for the first time. and the scrapbook page. well, i guess cans of soda are cheaper than therapy!
ReplyDeleteI am a Dr. Pepper fanatic! But I do like Coke over Pepsi.. but I can't have any right now I am on the south Beach diet... ugh...
ReplyDeleteMy preference is now Diet Coke with Added Carcinogens... I mean Diet Coke with Lime. And I love that last photo -- hysterical, although I'm sure your children will DIE of embarrassment at some point.
ReplyDeleteY'all won't lynch me if I tell the truth? I like Pepsi more than Coke ... but actually I like sweet tea the best. Can we still be friends?
ReplyDeletePepsi for me, too!! But it has to be diet!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Coke. I HATE Pepsi. Not even kidding. There's just something about "the real thing" that is incredible. If they serve Pepsi I'll either get water or sierra mist. :)
ReplyDeleteFountain drinks are too sweet for me & they make my teeth feel like they're coated with glue paste afterward.
ReplyDeleteBut when I drink Coke (Pepsi if I'm desperate & have no choice) I dilute it 1/3 with seltzer water...just about every dispenser machine has a "secret" little lever usually near the Minute Maid Lemonade nozzle for water.
THIS is hilarious!! I am EXACTLY the same. I can't stand the other guy, either. I won't drink it. EVER!
ReplyDeleteI love the scrapbook page!
Too funny - I'm a Coke girl here too, and it is all my husband's fault. He got me addicted to it - he's the one who won't allow Pepsi in the house. He even proposed by tying my ring to a bottle of Coke in the refrigerator! LOL One of my friends gave us one share of Coke stock as a wedding present. :) Our goal is to have a Coke themed kitchen, if we ever get a new house.
ReplyDeleteI too am a Coke fan - although I will drink Pepsi over water. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to apologize to you! You saw my daughter in her Roo costume on my blog over a month ago while I was out of town. I vaguely remember my DH telling me about it and I asked him to look in her closet to make sure it was there. He couldn't find it and I was going to check the totes of her outgrown clothes when I returned home...I completely forgot until I was just going back through my blog and saw your comment! I am so sorry! I still haven't had a chance to get the totes down from the attic but I wanted to let you know that we bought it from the Disney Store online about two weeks before Halloween last year for around $20 total (tax, shipping, etc.) I had googled for a discount code for Disney Store and I believe it was already like 40% off at the time. It was really soft, well-made and completely adorable on her - we are BIG Roo fans! Let me know if you would still like me to search for it and again I am so sorry!
